In the 25 years since Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball Z made its debut, it's become one of the most popular anime of all time, spawning several TV series, feature films and other merchandise.
Now Toei has rebuilt the original Dragon Ball Z anime and renamed it Dragon Ball Z Kai. In the process, they also restored the original cels and trimmed the filler from the storylines. How much filler? The original series ran for 291 episodes, but DBZ Kai only has 100. In a nod to increased globalization, FUNimation has released the first 13 episodes, calling it Dragon Ball Z Kai Part One, on DVD in North America before the series finished airing in Japan.
While fans of the show will welcome the return of their favourite dragonballers, newcomers will find themselves alternately rolling their eyes and wanting to hurl this DVD across the room.
